Abstract

Dependence between the structure of babbit mark B83, obtained by different casting methods and its properties was established. It was showed that segregation (separation due to the difference in density of the components) during the centrifugal casting had a negative influence on the fatigue resistance and tribological properties. Authors propose a new and improved method of centrifugal casting of babbit B83, which guarantees the crystallization of inter metallic compounds Cu 3 Sn and SnSb from molten alloy in turbulent motion, which not only eliminates the segregation but becomes SnSb inter metallic compound from sharp needles form to globular. This raises the fatigue resistance and allows deforming the molten alloy B83 at 200 0 C within the limits of 40%.
