Abstract:

In order to solve the question Why IT projects fail in the world ?, this article seeks to expose the recurrent motifs of different research and studies, applying the analysis to the national and international context, through documentary research methodology, with the goal to select and analyze data contained within the documents produced by different specialists sources as Project Management Institute (PMI), McKinsey & Company, International Data Corporation (IDC), Gartner, John McManus and Chaos Knowledge Center (CKC), among others, who have present studies and conclusions applied to each stage of the project life cycle. Our expectation is that with a clear vision of the common problems, the chance of success get increased, and the criteria already exposed, could be taken into account before and during the project execution to get the numbers of failure get reduced, primarily by attacking the three critical parameters: Scope , Time and Cost. By the nature of the factors which cause influence on the failure of projects, as a mitigation strategy we will establish some rules that can be applied to minimize the possibility to minimize and even prevent failure.
