LACCEI is creating a Central American and Caribbean Deans Council with the collaboration of ASIBEI. Until very recently, Central American and Caribbean regions had no national engineering deans council nor national engineering education organizations, so they did not have representation in ASIBEI (Asociación Iberoamericana de la Enseñanza de Ingeniería, in English: the Iberoamerican Engineering Education Society), IFEES (International Federation of Engineering Education Societies), nor the GEDC (Global Engineering Deans Council). Costa Rica recently formed a national deans council and has joined ASIBEI. LACCEI will create the infrastructure to support a regional council for the rest of the region, and provide support and communications for the nations to form their national deans council and distribute information from IFEES and the GEDC. The plans are for the LACCEI Engineering Deans Council to be officially launched at a meeting of the Greater Caribbean Region Engineering Accreditation System during the first quarter of this year, and join ASIBEI in a ceremony at the LACCEI 2010 conference in Arequipa, Peru during the first week of June 2010.
